Ocean Spray is an agricultural cooperative owned by more than 700 cranberry and grapefruit farmers in the United States, Canada and Chile. Ocean Spray employs more than 2,000 people worldwide. Surrounded by countryside, its headquarters is located in Lakeville-Middleboro, Massachusetts.
The cooperative was established in 1930 by three cranberry farmers who all shared the same objective: to capture new markets with innovative products.
It launched the first cranberry juice drink in the United States in 1930 and the first juice blend worldwide in 1963.
In 1976, Ocean Spray expanded to incorporate grapefruit farmers from the Indian River region of Florida.
It was also in the '70s when Ocean Spray set out into the British market, with the original cranberry sauce recipe quickly becoming a traditional accompaniment to the Christmas turkey. Pioneers in packaging, in 1981 Ocean Spray released the first sustainable cardboard container on the American market, the Ocean Spray Paper Bottle™, used for packaging juice. In the 1980s, Ocean Spray was the first to package juice in PET bottles.
Innovation is at the heart of our actions. New drinks with blueberry juice, for example, were launched in 2010.
The ingenuity and innovation that guided the cooperative during its creation in 1930 remain the values that drive Ocean Spray and allow us to develop products that delight our customers all over the world.
